SAT Prep - East Lyme High School
Certain schools in this
geographic area are so exceptionally
strong that the SAT becomes one
of the best weapons that students from the
school can use to illustrate their academic potential to colleges.
East Lyme High School is
unquestionably one of those
schools.
When we meet students from East Lyme for SAT Prep, several distinguishing characteristics are notable.
First, within Southeastern, CT, East Lyme students are the
most diverse. It seems that Pfizer
employees often settle in East Lyme.
Pfizer’s employee base comes from all over the world.
When we meet the students of many Pfizer employees for SAT
Prep in East Lyme, we know that most all of them come from families that place
a premium on education, often have the success work ethic of first generation
Americans,
and have the genetic good fortune of being offspring of scientists,
doctors, and other high IQ types that fill Pfizer’s ranks.
Second, when we meet East Lyme High School students for
individual SAT Prep, we get to know them on a personal basis. We often discover that their class ranks are
far lower than what would be expected given their SAT abilities. Colleges take class rank very seriously - not
just GPA.

& World Report. The three critical numbers
related to class
performance are the percentage of students in the top 10%; top 25% and
top
50%. This makes sense. GPA is often too
confusing to sort out when classes are weighted and when different
schools give
different numeric values to grades. For
example, while As are universally 4.0, Bs -3.0 etc., schools differ for
how
they value minus and plus distinctions.
Some schools, for example, value A- grades as 3.75 and others
at
3.66
Even more distorting is how schools weight AP and honors
classes. Every school is different.
For that reason, class rank becomes
vital. The challenge for most students
at East Lyme is that their class
rank is artificially low compared to others at
schools with lower completion.
